Environmental Protection and Sustainability
For us, it goes without saying that environmental protection is part of our corporate policy. Our awareness of it influences our daily actions in all areas of the company. Making allowance for and constantly improving environmental protection helps guarantee the safety of mankind and the environment and safeguard our company's long-term existence. Effective environmental protection, satisfied customers and staff, and also high product quality combined with optimum economy, are all equally important goals of our company.
What we understand by environmental protection:
- Optimum use of energy, water and raw materials.
- Avoiding environmental damage caused by emissions, waste water, soil pollution and refuse.
- Adhering to environmental legislation and regulations.
- Constantly improving the technical and organisational measures for environmental protection and system safety.
- Training staff to promote a sense of responsibility for the environment.
- Advising customers with regard to environmentally-relevant matters.
- Promoting good relations with the public via the exchange of information.
In order to achieve these goals, we aim to pursue an offensive environmental management policy over and above the framework provided by the legal regulations, and endeavour to think and act as one entity.
Responsible Care
We feel responsible - for our environment, for sustainable growth, for safe jobs. That is why we continuously and successfully work on improvements in the fields of safety, health and environmental protection. The chemical industry is a key industry. It supplies indispensable basic materials to other industrial sectors and develops new materials. "Responsible Care" is the title under which the international guidelines of the Association of the Chemical Industry are listed. KEMPER SYSTEM has been working on this for years.
LEED - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
An independent certification programme for the third-party verification of sustainable building development and not of products, although the individual products do contribute to the building’s overall assessment. Read more about LEED points and the listing for KEMPEROL® 2K-PUR
BREEAM - Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method
KEMPER SYSTEM manufacture [polyester / polyurethane / polymethylmethacrylate] systems, which comply with the BREEAM generic element ratings for roof constructions as listed in the Green Guide to Specification website.
Cold applied liquid roofing membranes have been recognised by BRE to help roofing elements achieve A+ rating (depending on the roof construction), demonstrating the sustainability and low environmental impact of this chemistry type.
Reduced Carbon Footprint and Reduced Landfill
The proven longevity of KEMPEROL® waterproofing in use, is also a key aspect in terms of sustainability. It is a long term solution that will continue to be effective long after other systems have failed.
When carrying out renovation work, application usually occurs directly onto the old substrate, avoiding costly removal and transport off site to become landfill.
This can also have the added benefit of reducing the duration and cost of your project.
Sustainable, Renewable, Solvent-Free Liquid Waterproofing
Sustainable liquid-applied waterproofing – Is that really possible? Yes! KEMPEROL® 2K-PUR is a solvent-free and odourless waterproofing system applied in liquid form that meets all environmental and long-term performance requirements.
80% of the resins in KEMPEROL® 2K-PUR are derived from the seeds of the tropical castor plant (ricinus communis) a sustainable resource that for every kilogram of castor oil produced in place of a petroleum-based polyol, there is a reduction of nearly 3.5 kilograms of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere.
A cradle-to-gate study commissioned by the Department of Energy (DOE) reported that there are essentially zero net greenhouse gas emissions from the production of castor oil. Added to that the reinforcement fleece we use contains a 25% recycled plastic bottle content.
Other products within our range of waterproofing solutions, such as KEMPERDUR® TC surfacing or KEMPERTEC® D-Primer, are also solvent-free and produced from renewable resources.
Green Roofs and Living Walls
Green roofs and living walls have significant advantages for climate control, noise protection and heat insulation. They protect against UV rays and offer an additional habitat for flora and fauna.
KEMPEROL® waterproofing is FLL certified as root resistant without additional protective layers. The homogenous waterproofing, which bonds to the substrate, provides permanent protection against moisture penetration damage and is an ideal base layer for green roof and living wall projects.
KEMPER SYSTEM Ltd are members of the Green Roof Organisation (GRO) - the independent UK body representing the industry trade associations, manufacturers and key players within the green roofing sector. GRO sets out to promote the green roof concept provide suitable guidelines to both manufacturers and installers and to recognise and promote correctly trained green roofing companies.
