Eliminate water seepage into the main oil storage tanks through an 80,000 sq.ft. concrete roof structure that has widespread areas of ponding water and extensive piping and other rooftop-mounted mechanical equipment. Roof deck is subjected to oil and other contaminants.
An edge-to-edge application of Kemperol membrane was installed throughout the concrete roof deck, encompassing hundreds of penetrations and equipment supports. The membrane provides a durable wearing surface for regular maintenance traffic without the need for walk pads, and resists rooftop contaminants and ponding water without deterioration.
The highly sensitive nature of the occupied space immediately below the roof (a genetics laboratory) combined with multiple penetrations caused by mechanical units, required a system that would offer a long-term, low-maintenance roofing system.
Selected and applied odorless Kemperol 2K-PUR membrane. Because the roof withstands heavy traffic and substantial mechanical loads, Kemper also
applied the odorless Kemperdur TC surfacing system along with a custom color aggregate blend that would not only address the traffic and weight issues, but also satisfy the architect’s aesthetic requirements.
Required new roof recovery system for avoidance of existing roof removal. New membrane required resistance to permafrost, extreme climate fluctuation and pooling oil.

A comprehensive, long-term solution was required for the facility’s infrastructure deficiencies without any disruption in the quality of service. Age and use created the need for maintenance and restoration of concrete surfaces, submerged equipment and piping.
Installation required initial preparation including the removal of tile filtration system and a thorough cleaning of existing concrete walls and floors. Kemperol reinforced membrane provided long-term protection against cracking and leakage within the basins. Completed project without any interruption of the facility’s established work schedules.
